ALABASTER, Alabama -- The Thompson Warriors scored 31-second-half points as they went on to defeat Carver-Montgomery 37-6 at Warriors Stadium on Thursday night. The Warriors' defense created four turnovers, and the offense turned on the switch to dominate the second half.
"First half offensively we struggled a little bit," said Warriors QB Trent Seaborn. "The defense played lights out the whole game. Offensively, it was a new team. We have a lot of new guys, especially at O-line, a couple of running backs, and some new receivers stepping up and assuming their roles. It was our first half playing against another team after about eight months of football. We knew we had to connect a little bit and develop that chemistry. We had great momentum early, but then mental mistakes slowed us down, and that interception really hurt us. We knew when we put it together that no one was going to stop us."
In the first quarter, only turnovers happened for both teams. Quarterback Zion Crumpton made a big run, but fumbled deep in Thompson territory, and defensive lineman Cam Pritchett pounced on the ball for the Warriors. For Carver, defensive lineman Kaleb Spivey picked off a tipped pass and turned away the Thompson offense.
Thompson scored first in the game when Seaborn hit Dedrick Kimbrough on a 57-yard touchdown pass play to give Thompson the 6-0 lead with 9:27 left in the second quarter. The extra point was missed. Right before the half, Carver had a good drive of their own. With only 34 seconds left in the first half, Crumpton scored on a 15-yard touchdown run. The game was tied at 6-6 as Carver missed the extra point.
In the second half, Thompson received the ball deep into their own territory on their first drive of the second half. Thompson had a 4th and one and converted on the play with an RJ Evans run up the middle, and it resulted in a Seaborn pass to Trey Knight of 16 yards and a touchdown. With 10:55 left in the third quarter, Thompson took a 13-6 lead and didn't look back.
With 9:17 left in the third quarter, Thompson scored again. A Urijah Casey 9-yard touchdown run gave the Warriors a 20-6 lead. With 2:49 left in the third quarter, KJ Jackson scored to make it 27-6 Thompson. Eli King got one of the Thompson second-half turnovers and set up the offense again. Thompson's newcomer quarterback, Zealand Danielson, made his 2025 debut with a few quarterback runs. With 8:38 left in the fourth quarter, Seaborn ran around the right end for a 13-yard touchdown run, and the Warriors led 34-6.
Thompson defensive back Damonte Tabb, with the interception, gave the ball right back to Thompson. Ethan Black kicked a 23-yard field goal with 6:16 remaining in the game, and Thompson led 37-6.
